The Biggest Return to Philly Since Will Smith

I’ve probably been one of the more critical people of Allen Iverson since he left the Philadelphia 76ers after the 2006-2007 season.  He was a team wrecking, selfish, ball hog in both Denver and Detroit and could not accept his role as an aging player who needed to come off of the bench to contribute consistently (Notice how I didn’t even mention Memphis, 3 games doesn’t count). Heck, I even wrote an article blasting Iverson and the 76ers for picking him up this very morning.  I take it all back.

Seeing Allen Iverson back in a Sixers jersey playing in Philadelphia made me forget all of that.  All is right again in the Iverson world.  He’s back. It’s like somebody pushed rewind and we’re in 2001 and Allen Iverson is the most dominant guard in the league and is on the cover of SLAM Magazine every other month and every Sega Dreamcast NBA 2K game from 2000-2004.

Allen Iverson fits in with the Sixers like Tiger Woods fits in with cocktail waitresses. I’m not sure of the logistics of it all, but it just works. (Too soon? Oh well…your fault Tiger, not mine.)  We all loved the old school Allen Iverson. He was a little guy who wasn’t afraid to go through the trees in the paint and take vicious hits from the big guys, and he would always play hurt. The Iverson of old was the basketball equivalent of a warrior.  Hopefully the honeymoon period doesn’t wear off anytime soon.  I’d love to see Iverson ride off in the sunset on his own terms.

Iverson finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in a 83-93 loss to the Nuggets. Wow, AI actually filled a stat sheet again…

I still can’t stand the guy. He is one of the many reasons I quit watching the NBA.

His attitude the last 3 years has been terrible and I wrote him off long ago. I’m hoping the change of scenery and being back in his comfort zone in Philly will bring back the old, hard working Iverson we all loved coming out of Georgetown.

his press conference sounded much like a certain drama oriented NFL receiver… *tear* *tear* “That’s my quarterback” boo hoo..

i hope he gets his act together. the man held Philly together for so long all by himself. He’s never going to put up the numbers he once did, but if he can play solid and contribute on a nightly basis the fans will all embrace him back with open arms
