BREAKING NEWS: Brian Kelly Will Coach the Irish

Brian Kelly will fill the vacant head football coach position at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame’s search for a new head football coach is over.  IrishIllustrated.com reports that Cincinnati head coach Brian Kelly has accepted ND’s offer to coach the Fighting Irish.  Over/Under is that Kelly will be kicking himself for the decision in mid-October when all of the 75 year old Irish fans want to know why he isn’t undefeated.

I still have no idea why Notre Dame is considered a desirable program to coach for just because it used to be good.  That would be like me saying that I’m going to invest in VHS tapes over Blu-Ray discs because VHS tapes were super-cool in 1995.

Here’s the full story from IrishIllustrated.com:

Brian Kelly is the new Notre Dame head football coach.

Kelly, 48, who led Cincinnati to a 33-6 record in three seasons, including back-to-back BCS bids in 2008-09, reportedly signed with the Irish Wednesday evening and then told his Bearcat players the news Thursday afternoon.

The team’s football banquet, scheduled for 5 p.m. ET, was closed to the media in a decision announced Thursday afternoon.

Kelly becomes the fifth Notre Dame head football coach since Lou Holtz’s 11th and final season with the Irish in 1996.
