Alabama RB Mark Ingram Takes Home the Heisman Trophy

Mark Ingram is the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner.

Well, forget our earlier story on how Florida QB Timmy Tebow would sneak away with the 2009 Heisman Trophy. We were wrong. (Thankfully. Nobody really wanted to see Timmy Tears win the award again in his least deserving year.)

Alabama Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram has won the 2009 Heisman Trophy for the most outstanding college football player.  Ingram set the Alabama school record with 1,542 rushing yards during the 2009 season while leading the Crimson Tide to a perfect 13-0 record. Shockingly, Ingram is the first winner of the Heisman Trophy from the storied college football powerhouse.

Ingram is only the second running back to win the recently quarterback biased award since 2000. USC’s Reggie Bush was the other running back to win the award in 2005.

It was announced that the 2009 Heisman Trophy voting was the closest ever in its 75 year history.
