MNF Preview – Packers vs. Ravens

Aaron Rodgers (aka: K.J.'s Fantasy Football Sugar Daddy)

This week’s Monday Night Football match-up takes us to Green Bay as the Packers take on the Baltimore Ravens on the frozen tundra at Lambeau Field. Game time temperatures are expected to be near 25 degrees (Fahrenheit…we don’t do that Celsius stuff here ever since the great ‘Move to the Metric System Frenzy’ that hit in the 1990’s fizzled out).

Look out 2007 Packers LT Mark Tauscher!

I know there is no chance for snow in Green Bay for tonight’s game but is it just me or has the allure of the Frozen Tundra really worn off now that #4 isn’t there to sling snowballs at his lineman’s heads in between plays? Favre playing most of his December and January schedule in a dome controlled environment feels like some sort of crime. Let’s not kid ourselves here, his replacement Aaron Rodgers is a California boy. The last time he had a positive outlook on snow and cold weather was when him and his boys were stoked to go shred up Bear Mountain on a weekend snowboarding trip. I’m just saying…moving on.

The Pack enter the game on a 3 game winning streak and coming off of an 11 day break since their joke of a game which made my family Thanksgiving even more boring last outing against the Motor City Kitties on Thanksgiving. A-Rog has been fantastic since his offensive line figured out that they are actually supposed to get in the way of the opposing defensive line on a regular basis.

The Green Bay defense has been stellar during the 3 game stretch and any defense which possesses a man named Ray Lewis is usually pretty stout. Lots of defense in this game. I like A-Rog and the Pack D to scratch out the win in a close game.

Betting Line: Packers +3 1/2

Over/Under: 43

K.J.’s Predictions: Packers will win but won’t cover the spread, take the Ravens and the points and take the under.

I really hate Brett Favre

December 7, 2009 4 comments

For the past 10 years I have followed football not religiously but closely enough that I have watched every super bowl and parts of games on most Sundays.  One of the things I have learned along the way is that I absolutely hate Brett Favre.

I hate how he talks, throws, and endorses Wranglers. I hate that John madden loved him so much that he used his name as a verb as in ” he Favred that ball” , I hate that people in Wisconsin place him right between Moses and Mohammed as the next great prophet. Finally I hate how for years he threw the ball into tight spots and was praised as a gunslinger while he constantly took his teams out of games with his bravado.

Since 1998 he has averaged 19.5 interceptions per year with his “close your eyes and chuck” approach. Last year I thought I would be rid of him forever after his late season collapse with the Jets. He looked like MJ playing for the Wizards, or Sammy Sosa when he played for Baltimore I was happy to watch him tuck tail and ride his tractor off into the sunset. But then the Vikings came calling and texting and telegraphing and sending secret morse code messages. He came back and I waited for his inevitable collapse. You know what, I am still waiting.

Brett Favre has not only played in control but he has been spectacular. It is like Brad Childress hypnotized him with his creepy beard and tinted glasses. I have watched every Vikings game this season and I have sat silently crossing my fingers that our old friend the gunslinger would get nervous and show up to blow a game for the Vikings but sadly it hasn’t happened. Apparently Brad Childress’s timid and JFL style play calling has kept Brett under control that and the Mack truck he has in the back field. Brett has the best talent he has ever had on both offense and defense and he will be able to ride them all the way to his third Super Bowl if they can get past Drew Brees.

I know this, every Vikings fan has a small voice in the back of their mind which prays every time Brett drops back “please Brett just throw it the open guy, hey you could hand it to Adrian, please don’t throw it into quadruple coverage for the sake of our season you remember 1999.” My hope is the Vikings roll all the way to the Super Bowl Brett valiantly leading the way. That is until the big game where he will face a staunch AFC defense and Brett will not be able to control himself and he will end his season by throwing a Super Bowl record 6 interceptions.

Addition: I wrote this before the current Vikings game that is about to end. Brett threw 2 interceptions that should have been 4. Oh Brett it’s so good to see you again.
